Shabat Shira with Pete “Afro D” Shungu and Global Soundwaves

5:30PM - 7:30PM

Sinai Temple 3104 W. Windsor Rd
Champaign, IL

Please join us for our February First Friday on Friday, February 3.  It will be Shabbat Shira, the Sabbath of Song, and we are preparing a special experimental worship experience.  We begin at 5:30 PM with a special service featuring Pete “Afro D” Shungu and Global Soundwaves, who will interweave rap, jazz, and global music themes to provide a unique soundtrack for our service.  Pete has collaborated with Rabbi Alan to create a new piece based on the Song of the Sea which will debut at this service.  The music will be interwoven in creative ways through the traditional rubrics of our service.  We are grateful to the Dr. Samuel and Sadie Small Fund for Jewish Arts and Culture of the Champaign Urbana Jewish Endowment Funds (CUJEF), for their support of this program.

Following the service, please plan to stick around for a delicious home-cooked dinner and a chance to visit with your Sinai Temple friends.  Dinner is $8 per person (no more than $30 per household), and we do ask for advance RSVPs to ensure sufficient food quantities.  RSVP for dinner at https://sinaicu.wufoo.com/forms/zhdixu01vwzweq/
