Join us for this special Chai event to meet touring musical artists Jake Shulman-Ment and Laurel Premo. Jake and Laurel are touring together for the first time, combining their skills to produce a unique collaboration of sound and style. During this lecture-playing session, Jake and Laurel will each demonstrate their particular styles of music (klezmer and Americana) and then talk to us about their collaborative process. Jake is also available to talk about his background in traditional Jewish Eastern European music, including his ethnographic fieldwork in Hungary and Romania. Lunch will be available.

Laurel Premo (https://www.laurelpremo.com) has spent her life immersed in American and Nordic folk traditions which she brings to life through finger-style electric guitar, lap steel, fiddle, and voice. Jake Shulman-Ment (https://www.jakeshulmanment.com/) is among the most highly regarded klezmer musicians performing today. This will be his fourth appearance in C-U, the most recent of which was the stunning closing concert of the Violins of Hope concert series in June of 2023. Jake and Laurel will be performing at the Rose Bowl Tavern in Urbana on Tuesday, March 19th, at 7:30pm. $15-$20 suggested donation in the bucket for the performers.
